The current Coal Mining Industry Remuneration Report was published in December 2011 - 52 companies managing 140 operations participated. The next Report will be published in the first week of June 2012.
The Australasian Coal Mining Industry Remuneration Report has become a benchmark for the coal industry and is the largest and most comprehensive survey in the Australian mining industry. The Australasian Coal Mining Industry Remuneration Report was published for the first time in December 2000 and is published biannually.
The survey & report cover 176 positions from Chairman of the Board, through corporate & site management to operators & support personnel.
In the December 2011 edition, there is a new section providing salary ranges according to the type of roster worked plus new sections dealing with attraction & retention plan payments.
The purpose of the Report is to provide the Directors, Remuneration Committees and Executive Management of participating organisations with factual data and reliable analyses of the remuneration of key personnel in the Australian Coal Mining Industry. The Coal Mining Industry Remuneration Report focuses on information provided by both open-pit and underground operations mining steaming / energy coal and coking / metallurgical coal. It addresses specific industry issues such as role and shift allowances and working conditions that affect the remuneration package.
Scope of the Survey
Set out below is a summary of the scope of the Australian Coal Mining Industry Remuneration Report:
- it covers Executive and Corporate as well as operations staff and traditional “award” positions;
- it covers the open-pit and underground coal mining industry in all Australian states;
- it reports on Base Salary, Total Fixed Remuneration (including the value of benefits such as motor vehicles & superannuation) and Total Variable Remuneration (showing the impact of incentives);
- it measures market movements during the past 6 and 12 months for matched samples of companies for each position; and,
- it provides a detailed analysis of practices in respect of incentives and benefits.
